Overseeding is normally undertaken after scarification. If the lawn is heavily scarified, bare patches of earth may be left, these should be overseeded to discourage annual meadow grass and weeds taking hold. The sward composition can also be changed by overseeding on a regular basis, a coarse grass species lawn can be converted to a finer one over a period of several years. Bare patches, in general, should be overseeded on a regular basis to stop weed invasion.
